In Pepys, The Story of The Company and its Games 4th Ed.,Rex Pitts includes copies of original correspondence between Brian Tucknell and Castell Bros. Ltd.. Brian Tucknell devised the game, known initially as 'Gunfight'. Pepys commissioned an (unnamed) artist to illustrate the cards and published it under the name 'Wild West'. The letters between Brian Tucknell and Castell also reveal the quantity sold between 1964 and 1974, the initial fee paid and Brian Tucknell's "meagre" annual commission.

Brian Tucknell created other card games, Board Game Geek contributors have identified three.
