The Walt Disney animated film Dumbo had its World Premiere in New York on 23rd October 1941 and was released in the UK on 21st December 1941. The usual date given for the publication of the Pepys game is 1939* and there may have been plans and/or agreements to produce games based on future Disney films at this point. Disney bought the rights to Helen Aberson-Mayer's book Dumbo the Flying Elephant late in 1939 but the film did not go into production until 1941. For this reason I have dated the game's release as circa 1941.

The twin Red and Blue packs were released at the same time and are not separate editions.

The only "branding" is the "Pepys Series" device on the box front, no address or other details feature in the rules.

* In Rex Pitts' book Pepys, The Story of The Company and its Games 4th Ed., Dumbo is listed as being released in 1939 but the text on page 8 has some ambiguity:

"As the association with Disney had proved such a good idea further card games based on Walt Disney films were planned for 1939, namely Mickey's Fun Fair ... Dumbo ...and Shuffled Symphonies."
